BENEFIELD
UPPER BENEFIELD
No.31 and Benefield Stores

GV
II

Shown as No.11 on Ordnance Survey map.
House, now house and shop. Late C18. Squared coursed limestone with Collyweston
slate roof. L-shape plan. 2 storeys. Main front is a 2-window range of C19
casements at first floor and C20 casements at ground floor, all under wood
lintels. Central part-glazed door also under wood lintel. Cross wing, breaking
forward to right, has a C20 window and door, to ground floor, of the return
wall. Lintel at intersection of cross wing with main range probably indicates
different build. Brick stacks at ridge and end. Small C20 shop window in gable
end abutting road. Rear elevation is similar with gable end of cross wing to
left. Interior: shop has ceiling beams. Part of the building was used as a
bakehouse.
