Garden boundary wall and small attached gate house. C18, partly heightened in
early C19. Knapped coursed flints and red brick details including brick base
courses partly exposed, brick lacing courses, crenellations, capping and gatejambs.
The wall forms the southern boundary to the gardens of The Mansion House, High
Street (q.v),No 74 High Street (The Tower House) (q.v) and The Orchard House and
The Beeches in West Furlong Lane, all originally part of the grounds of The Mansion
House. The wall is in two lengths separated by the gateway to The Tower House.
The taller, western length (c.3.00m high) is capped in brick with widely spaced
brick crenellations and has a short but higher return at the south west angle
of the grounds built over a brick archer recess. The length of wall to the
east of the gateway has a heavy weathered brick capping projecting over a brick
dentil course. The small gate house to the west of the gateway stands higher
than the wall with a hipped tiled roof and a tile hung south wall pierced by
an opening with a wooden shutter. Wall and gate house listed for group value
in West Furlong Lane formerly known as West Foreland Lane.
