Shops and flat, former house. Late C14, timber framed and plastered, 2 storey
buildings, with gabled jettied and tile hung C20 structure with imitation timber
framing and decorative bargeboards. Main roof is of peg tiles, hipped front
and rear of W end and gable at E end with some weatherboarding. Gable end stack
at W end and large stack to rear of W cross-wing. First floor has oriel bay
window, with double hung sashes with small panes. In centre of elevation is
an early C19 double hung sash with moulded surround and margin glazing bars.
To E end, a similar but earlier window with small panes. Under this, 2 C20
shopfronts, part recessed and early C19 doorcase. Interior reveals substantial
remains of late C14 crosswing at W end, with steeply raking chamfered tie beam
very thick arch braces, short angled jowls, wide spaced studs and remains of
crown-post roof-. On back wall here, is an 1840 fireplace of high quality with
Adam style figures and label giving makers title of 'Peace and Plenty'.
