Early C18 brick front to C17 or earlier building. Pantile roof with gabled ends,
part with brick dentil eaves; 2 storeys and basement. Seven windows, mostly
sashes with glazing bars, ground floor of No 42 has thick glazing bars, ground
floor of No 40 has 2-light sash, one light with thick glazing bars. First floor
of No 42 has three 2-light ovolo-moulded wood mullion/transom casements with
leaded panes. No 38 has small early C20 shop. No 40 glazed and panelled door,
No 42 small late C19 3-light shop window with cornice and panelled door with
6 panes with thick glazing bars. At rear of No 40, incorporated into wall a
stone dripmould probably from the Abbey. Said to have vaulted brick cellars.
