SK 21 SW HARLASTON C.P. MANOR LANE (North-east side)

GV II

House. Late C17, remodelled and extended in the late C19. Timber
framed with brick extension, now roughcast; plain tile roof; roughcast
brick external end stack. Original house aligned north-east/south-west
facing north-west, 2 framed bays of unequal length; rear wing added in
the late C19, to form a rough T-shape. 2 storeys; 2 windows, casements,
exposed queen strut roof truss and corner post to right-hand gable. The
present entrance is at the north-west end of the rear range, it has a re-
used datestone of 1690 above the door. Interior: the principal room of
the main house is in the south-west bay, it has a late C19 Gothic style
stone fireplace at the south-west end inscribed "GRIPE GRIFFIN / HOLD FAST".
Both ground floor rooms have spine beams with very wide chamfers, the
beam in the north-east room has a carved boss. Exposed square panelled
timber framing to the central partition and rear wall; spine beam to
first floor room of north-east bay, first floor room of south-west bay
is open to the roof.
