Pair of cottages. c1855. By George Gilbert Scott. Coursed and
squared limestone rubble with ashlar quoins and dressings; shaped and
hung clay tiles to attic storey; shaped clay tile roofs with plain tile
bands; ashlar ridge stacks. Vernacular revival and Swiss Chalet style;
pair of semi-detached cottages with projecting porches to East and West
and projecting wings to South East and South West. South Elevation:
1 storey and attic; 1:1:1:1:1 bays; central block with projecting
gabled wings to right of centre and left of centre with shaped and painted
barge boards and slightly lower projecting porches to outside facing
East and West; casements; ground floor 3-light canted bays to right of
centre and-left of centre with chamfered mullions and hipped roofs; 2
single light windows to centre with Caernarvon arch heads; ground floor
single light window to left; 2-light attic window to gabled wing left
ofcentre; central gabled dormer to centre with shaped and
painted barge boards; both gabled wings have gabled dormers facing West;
doorway to right with Caernarvon arch head. An essential part of the
picturesque estate village created by Scott in the 1850's.
