The Fox Rotunda
II
Monument. c.1780; originally a fountain at Hyde Park Corner,
London. Portland limestone cupola on 4 Ionic columns on circular
plinth, surmounted by bust in marble of George IV. Beneath the
cupola a square pedestal with a marble dish and on each face a
fountain in the form of a brass dolphin. A painted lead fox
sits upon the pedestal. The Prince Regent was a friend of
Richard Tattershall, and his bust was added to the cupola upon
its resiting at the Knightsbridge salerooms of Tattershalls
c.1865. The rotunda was moved to the present site c.1960.
