No.18 (Brandon Bargain Centre) and No.20 (Rutters)

Shop and office. Mid C16 with alterations of C17, C19 and C20. 2 storeys, 3
windows. Timber-framed and underbuilt at front in painted C19 brick with
dentil eaves. Pantiled roofs with axial and gable chimneys of gault brick.
C20 3-light casements with segmental arched heads at 1st floor level. Late
C19 shop front to No.18; mid C20 shop front to No.20. Probably built as a 3-
cell cross-passage entrance house. The left hand cell was originally roofed
as a cross-wing (the front range was reroofed C18 or C19). Some good timber
framing exposed including ogee-moulded floor members. A large fireplace was
inserted in the hall C17. A C17 wing to centre rear, probably kitchen or
brewhouse, with gable chimney of red brick and flint, and parapet gable; a
blocked diamond mullioned window.
