This was the house of Edward Burkitt and his initials are seen in the fanlight
over the door. Burkitts were an eminent family of Sudbury for 200 years.
C18 red brick fronted house, 2 storeys heightened to 3 storey in C19, and
much of its original character destroyed. Slate roof. Wood modillion former
eaves cornice over 2nd storey, band between 1st and ground floor. 5 window
range, sash with glazing bars. Ground floor shop. Central doorcase up steps,
with open pediment, quasi triglyphs, fanlight, panelled reveals and 6-panel
door. Included for Group Value.
Nos 54 and 55 form a group.
