A C15 flint building with stone dressings. The lower part of the west
tower is C13. Restored in the C19 and C20. The west tower has diagonal
buttresses and a castellated parpaet with flint panel work. The nave,
aisles and south porch have castellated parapets. The main historical
interest lies in its connection with the Winthrop family of which John
Winthrop (d 1649) was the leader of the Puritan emigration to New England
in 1630. He founded the city of Boston and was the first governor of
the state of Massachusetts, USA. Graded for its historical interest.
