Wrongly shown on OS map as Boyton Cottage. Detached house. C18,
altered early C19. Dressed limestone, hipped tiled roof, brick
stacks with decorated pots. Two-storey, 3-windowed south front;
sashes. Early C19 half-glazed door with panelled reveals and
moulded architrave with dentilled porch on wooden Tuscan columns,
either side are paired 12-pane flush sashes. First floor has sash
over door and pair of sashes either side; the left hand pairs on
both floors are at lower level than right hand pairs. Dentilled
brick cornice to roof with two hipped dormers; 2-light casements.
Right return has pair of flush sashes to ground floor and one sash
and a pair to first floor, one hipped dormer to roof. Left return
has attached single-storey extension with steel casements and
hipped roof, blocked openings to main range. Rear has pair of 2-
storey wings flanking narrow former courtyard, filled by C19
single-storey bay with 24-pane sash, first floor of main range has
12-pane sash.
Interior has early C19 fittings; open well stairs with two stick
balusters per tread, ramped handrail, wreathed at bottom, beaded
door architraves, 4-panelled doors, internal window shutters.
Formerly Dower House of Fane family to Boyton Manor (q.v.).
Undergoing renovation at time of survey (April 1985). Probably
originally L-plan with subsequent additions and remodelling in late
C18 and early C19.
