In front of the house is a paved terrace with open strapwork balustrades
surmounted by ornamental urns and carved lions. Ashlar. Probably early
C18. Central steps with similar balustrades lead down to a lawn, from
each side of which further steps lead to the main lawn at a lower level.
Fronting the lawns to east and west of the house, and joined to the balustrades
of upper terrace, are high retaining walls. Probably earlyCl8. Coursed
rubble with flat pilasters topped by carved stone urns. Similar lower
retaining walls (probably late C19 in date) front the intermediate terraces
to east and west of the house. One pair of gatepiers set in a wall at
east end of the lower terrace. Probably C18. Ashlar. Piers have stepped
corners and moulded entablatures supporting finely carved stone pineapples.
Double wrought-iron gates with foliated scrolls. Also pair of gatepiers
to east of north front. Probably C18. Ashlar. Urns on top.
The Hall forms a group with its terraces, walls, gatepiers, balustrades,
2 garden seats and wall around the grounds.
