House. 1691 and probably early-mid C18. English bond brickwork
with slate roof, extended to right in Flemish bond with stone slate
roof. Two storeys, 5 x 2 bays. Symmetrical with central stair
hall, and flanking reception rooms. Central bolection moulded
doorcase and 6-panelled door. Two-light overlight. String
course. Stone cross windows with reserve chamfers. Sun dial
over entrance with gnomon. Dentilled eaves. Roof hipped and
sprocketed. Stacks on rear walls of front range. Left elevation
has 2 flat roofed dormers. Wing to right has flush stone quoins,
the upper floor rebuilt. One 2-light stone window the remainder
timber windows. Gable stack. Roof hipped with two internal
wells.
Interior: Hallway has very fine and wide late C17 stair with
balustrade raised on string. Left living room has C17 bolection
moulded fireplace and panelling, and cornice. Right room has
cornice and mahogany dado panelling, and similar fireplace. Dado
also in hall. Similar cornice and panelling in west room to rear,
and various panelled room on first floor including some earlier C17
hardwood panelling. Bolection moulded stone fireplaces
throughout, some with tin-glazed tiles and C19 iron grates by
Carron. Bathroom has contemporary naive painting on canvas in
pilastered chimneypiece.
