House in parkland, 1813 for Admiral Montague. Ashlar limestone
with slate roof. Two storeys and attics. Five x 3 bays. Side,
entrance, elevation of 5 bays, with door feature in centre 2 bays.
Bead moulded door with radially glazed segmental fanlight in one
bay, window in other, all under cornice. Twelve-paned sashes, some
blind, with slender glazing bars and concealed boxes, and floating
cornices over ground floor windows. Wood eaves with paired
modillions. Central 3 bays raised above cornice level as attic,
terminating in 3 stacks. Two low relief panels with bull and
initials SR, and goats with initials JR. Garden elevation has open
ground floor verandah on 6 Roman Doric columns. Central ground
floor bay blind and flanking tripartite 15-pane sashes for full
height. Upper floor 12-paned sashes have false shutters. Two
storey gabled rear block, and service wing of 4 bays with 16 and
20-paned sashes and 2 raking dormers.
Interior has good moulded cornices, panelled doors and shutters.
Marble fireplaces and stone flagged hall floor.
