Cottage row. C17 and C18. Timber framed, rendered, some brick infill, thatched roof. Plan now very uncertain but possibly C17 house extended at either end and now four cottages, or possibly two C17 cottages originally. Rear outshut. Nos 272 and 273 have rear lateral stacks, Nos 273 and 274 share a ridge stack, No 274A has a gable end stack. No 274 has a framed rear wing apparently of nearly contemporary build. Two storeys, seven windows to whole, various C19 and modern casements, three modern gabled porches. No 274A is an C18 addition.
Interior of 273 and 274 seen. Deeply chamfered beams with lambs tongue, and bar stops. Roof part common rafter, part with windbraces. No 273 has a modern staircase, No 274 a winder one. Main room of 272 seen through window. Heavily beamed ceiling and open fireplace.
An interesting cottage now of several builds but with the original planning obscure without detailed study. Said to have been the Manorial court and to be medieval in origin but the inspection possible did not display any of this if it exists.
