Large house. C18, extended later C18 and additions of C19.
Restored C20 is style of the later C18. Stucco on stone and brick.
Slate roof. Two storeys, cellars and attics. Double pile plan.
Main garden front symmetrical, of 5 bays, the central 3 bays
slightly set forward and pedimented. Central 6-panelled door and
flanking 8-pane sashes enclosed in Ionic tetrastyle flush portico.
Flanking windows with moulded surrounds and aprons, and segmental
pediments, and outer windows similar with triangular pediments.
Venetian central window to first floor, and 9-pane sashes. Oculus
in pediment, which is extended as heavily dentilled eaves. Two 6-
pane flat roofed dormers in hipped roof. South front to left also
of 5 bays with central glazed door between large canted columned
bays, and across front a C20 raised Tuscan portico forming covered
terrace. Dentilled eaves on returns, and 2 dormers. Three parallel
hipped roofs, the centre one with a wooden bell tower.
Internally: Garden front opens into apsidal hall with niches and
dentilled cornice, opening left to drawing room with Adamesque
ceiling and good fireplace. Cross passage with dado panelling from
south front leads to stair at north side (not seen). Library in
south-west corner has Adam style fireplace. Later extensions
beyond library and on north side.
