Former farmhouse. C16 with major alterations of early C17; refronted 1910 as
dated on building. Timber-framed and plastered; partly encased 1910 in red
brick, now painted. Thatched roof with various chimneys of red brick; one of
early C17 has a pilaster on the sides and a moulded string near the base.
Mainly large-pane sashes of 1910, with 4-panelled entrance door recessed in
single-storey extension. Probably mid C16 core, with arch-braced close-
studding, unchamfered floor joists, and evidence for diamond-mullioned
windows. Major early C17 remodelling: the C16 coupled-rafter roof was given
principals and two tiers of butt-purlins (the upper tier wind-braced), attics
were inserted, and the earlier joists given chamfers with ornate stops. Back-
to-back parlour and chamber fireplaces with flat chamfered heads and original
hearths. A fine early C17 plaster ceiling has vinescroll friezes and large
cartouches with central pendant motifs. A late C17 dog-leg stair has heavy
balustrading and barley-sugar twist balusters. Some bolection-moulded joinery
of c.1700.
