STONHAM ASPAL
ANGEL HILL
Thornbush Farmhouse

II
Farmhouse, probably early C16 with c.1600 and C20 alterations. 3-cell cross-
passage entrance plan. 2 storeys. Timber-framed and rough-cast. Glazed and
unglazed clay pantiles; an axial C17 chimney of red brick with sawtooth shaft
on an oblong base. C20 casements and a panelled entrance door at cross-entry
position. Some heavy unchamfered 1st floor joists and a 4-centred arched
doorway (reset) in the hall. A parlour cell to right has good complete close-
studding of c.1600. The C18 butt-purlin roof over the hall reuses a number of
smoke-encrusted medieval rafters, perhaps from this house.
