7/6 Feoffee Farmhouse
II
Farmhouse, mid C16 with alterations of mid C17 and later. 3-cell lobby-
entrance plan. 1 storey and attics. Timber-framed and plastered. Pantiled
roof with C20 gabled casement dormers. An axial chimney of red brick,
possibly of c.1662 (see below). Battened and boarded door of c.1980 at lobby-
entrance position. Unchamfered C16 floor joists are exposed in ground floor
rooms. Inserted back-to-back C17 lintelled fireplaces in hall and parlour.
This moated site, with its farm, was bequeathed by John Austin (will d.1432),
for the upkeep of the church of Ashbocking, and the residue to the poor of the
Parish. Minute books of the Trustees survive from at least 1662,when
reference to the construction of a chimney is included.
