Mutton Hall
- II
Farmhouse, formerly manor house. Built c.1600, with major remodelling of early
or mid C18. 2 storeys and attics. Built as an H-plan house: both the service
wing to left and the parlour wing to right projected forward by at least one
bay until truncated to form a flush facade in C18. Timber-framed and plastered.
Slated roof, once plaintiled, hipped at either end. An axial chimney of C17
red brick, with a panelled shaft; another of C18/C19 to left with plain shaft.
Casements, mainly of 3 lights with transomes; C19, but with some early C18 windows
at the rear with leaded lights. C19 gabled entrance porch with panelled door.
Plain timber-framing of c.1600, with wind-braced but purlin roof at either end
(the centre range received a rebuilt roof in C18). Some good wainscotting and
an arcaded overmantel of c.1600, and a number of ribbed plank doors. Some good
joinery and much internal remodelling of C18. A lower C17 service range to rear
left.
