2/93 Barn, attached to
- north-east corner
Norton Hall

GV II

Barn, mid/late C16. Red brick in English bond, a parapet gable at the east
end. Corrugated asbestos-sheeted roof, once thatched. Buttressing in 3 bays.
Ventilation loops, 3 to a bay, on 2 levels with broad inner reveals, and
further loops in the gable. On the north side is an integral central porch,
but with C19 lean-to roof. Good original 2-tier side purlin roof in 4 bays:
the lower tier with heavy butt purlins, the upper tier well windbraced. An
original partition wall of brick now forms the west gable: the barn originally
continued westwards for about 2 bays to form an L-plan with the house.
