White Hall Farmhouse
II
Former farmhouse. Late C16 and first half of C17, in 2 phases; renovated
c.1980. Timber framed and plastered under a thatched roof. 2 storeys.
Symmetrical facade with 4 3-light mullion and transom windows of C19 date,
altered c.1980; the upper windows are within gabled half-dormers. Wooden
hoodmoulds to ground floor windows. Lobby entrance with gabled porch and mid
C20 8-panel door. Internal stack with axial stack of C17 brick. 2 lean-to
additions at rear, that to left also timber framed. Much modernised interior:
most of the frame is exposed, partly rebuilt on the ground floor. The 2 bays
to left of the stack are the earlier, the frame with reverse-curved braces.
The remaining 3 bays, incorporating the stack, are slightly higher: heads of
main posts have deep jowls; rear wall has one square-headed doorway (blocked)
and 2 first floor windows with diamond mullions. Plain joists throughout on
ground floor, with 2 rooms each side of the stack, the cross-partition to the
left now removed. Roof not examined.
