WICKHAM SKEITH ROSE LANE
TM 06 NE
2/152 Pear Tree Cottage
-

-- II
House, latterly 2 cottages. Probably C17, re-using earlier timbers;
remodelled C18. Renovated mid C20 with rear addition of 1970's. Timber
framed and rendered, pantiled roof. 2 cells. 2 storeys. Mid C20 casement
windows with square-leaded panes. Mid C20 lobby entrance has boarded door and
gabled hood. Shaft of stack rebuilt mid C20. Interior. 2 bays to right of
stack: heavy main posts with deep jowls, good studding with evidence for
redundant diamond-mullioned windows. The section against the stack is framed
as an end wall, with evidence for an upper window. Cambered open tie beam with
missing braces. Ground floor has chamfered-joist ceiling with massive
floorbeam. Left cell has plain studding and a poorer quality floor with
irregular on-edge joists. Stack of large brick, probably later C18. Side
purlin roof with plank wind bracing, most of the timbers concealed.
