1/15 Grove Farmhouse

- II
Former farmhouse, now 2 dwellings. C17 core with considerable later
alteration, notably of late C18/early C19 when the house was extended to the
left. Probably originally timber-framed, now red brick except for a small
part of the facade which is pale yellow brick. Glazed black pantiles to front
roof slope, slates to rear. 2 storeys and attics. A single long range with
continuous lean-to at rear. The left hand dwelling has 5 sash windows in
flush frames under segmental yellow brick arches, and a central doorway with
6-panel door (the upper 2 panels glazed), pilasters, frieze and cornice. The
right hand dwelling has 3 windows (tripartite sashes to the ground floor) and
a lobby entrance with matching mid C20 doorway. Plaster coved eaves cornice
(originally across the whole facade). The windows to both dwellings have
glazing bars in the upper sashes only. Parapet gable ends. Internal and
gable stacks. Closed-string staircase with slender turned balusters at later
end; 2 rooms in the right hand dwelling have exposed joists (set on edge).
The C17 roof is substantially intact.
