5/54 Barn 30m east north east
- of New House Farmhouse
- II
Barn. Late C17/early C18. Timber framed, mainly weatherboarded, with red
brick gable ends, the upper part of each gable also weatherboarded. Pantiled
roof. 5 bays with a central cart entrance. The frame is substantially
intact, with full-height studding and arched bracing. 3 of the 4 open trusses
retain their arched braces. The northernmost bay was originally floored over
and there is evidence for the original first floor windows, which had diamond
mullions. The roof has 2 rows of unstepped butt purlins with straight plank
wind-bracing; some of the rafters have been renewed. (cf. barn at Moat Farm,
Willingham, Item No. 5/57).
