- II
Former farmhouse. Mid C16 and early C18. 2 storeys and attics; L-shaped
form, with a cross-wing on the right. Timber-framed; faced in C19 red brick
on the ground floor and the gable of the wing, the remainder rendered. Black
glazed pantiles. An internal chimney-stack to the main range, the upper part
rebuilt, with 4 attached square moulded shafts on a moulded base. Various old
casement windows, 4-light, 3-light and 2-light, some small-paned. At the
back, one old square leaded-paned 3-light casement window with transome.
Lobby-entrance to the main range: a C19 enclosed and gabled porch in red brick
with clay pantiled roof has the Adair monogram above the doorway; the door has
4 flush panels. The early C18 main range has only main posts and main beams,
with small chamfer, exposed. Original upper ceilings. The butt-purlin roof
has a ridge-piece and intermediate collars between trusses. The mid C16
cross-wing is in 3 bays: ground floor ceilings with cross-beams, heavy
unchamfered joists set flat. The upper ceilings are a later insertion. The
roof was renewed in the C19, but the cambered tie-beams have mortices for
queen-posts.
