2/2 Barn to South West of
- Barningham Park, Barningham

- II

Barn. Early C18. Timber-framed, on a high brick plinth, partly covered in old
render, partly weatherboarded, but mainly clad in corrugated iron sheeting.
Corrugated asbestos on roof, replacing earlier thatch. The frame is in 6 long
bays, with a pair of intermediate main posts to each bay which do not carry
tiebeams. The outer walls have substantial primary braces, bisected studs,
and no middle rail. Main posts to trusses with long jowled heads, flat tie
beams, long straight braces. Along the east side, a timber-framed lean-to
extension, with the date 1800 cut into one post. The roof is in 12 short
bays, with every 2 bays corresponding to one bay of the frame: 2 rows of
slightly stepped butt purlins, straight collars, principal rafters set on edge,
ridge-piece. Original cart entries in the 2nd and 5th bays.
