STANTON
DUKE STREET
Rose Cottage

GV
II

House, now divided into 2. C16. 2 storeys: set sideways-on to road. Timber-
framed, and encased in whitewashed brick. Double Roman tiles: half-hipped
roof. An internal chimney-stack with a shaft of old red bricks in 2 joined
sections. Random fenestration to side walls: small casement windows. Plain
door with a small rustic timber porch. Two 3-light early C20 casement windows
with a single bar to south gable-end; the lower with an arched surround. The
frame is complete behind the brick: arched braces to the corners and good
timbering. The northern cottage contains one-and-a-half bays of the 4-bay
frame: a partition wall between the 2 bays has been removed on the ground
storey, and an apparently later chimney-stack inserted beyond it, but it
remains on the upper storey, with studding and arched braces below the tie-
beam. In the half bay surrounding the chimney-stack the framing is exposed,
with a blocked 3-light diamond-mullioned window on the east wall, and the
remains of another on the west. Assembly marks to the frame of the window.
