2/2 Shrub End

House, formerly divided into 2 cottages. Late C16. One-and-a-half storeys;
3-cell form. Part timber-framed and plastered, with traces of simple
pargetting; part colour-washed brick; thatched roof. An internal chimney-
stack set across the ridge of the roof. 2-light and 3-light C19 casement
windows with a single bar to lights; one C20 cross window; 2 eyebrow dormers.
2 plank doors. Some timbers exposed inside: frame in three-and-a-half bays,
the northernmost, brick encased, a later addition. The half-bay, at the south
end, now encloses a chimney-stack, but may originally have extended further,
as the present 2 central bays appear incomplete. The main ceiling-beam of the
central truss has one heavy arched brace remaining, and an original studded
partition has been removed between the northern and middle bays. There are no
tie-beams to the tops of the main posts: the house was built with a complete
upper storey. The roof structure is entirely concealed.
