- Old Hall Farmhouse
G.V. II
Farmhouse, formerly manorhouse. Mid-late C16, possibly including some
structure from an earlier house. Timber framed with some colourwashed C19
Flemish bond brick walling and colourwashed render. Plaintile roof,
originally thatched. Two storeys with attic. Road front: projecting wing
at near-centre, probably of C19 date, which has a central window with large
pane below and 3-lights above. Three-light C19 casement to the first floor.
To right of this are 2 bays having an outshut to the ground floor level
with a slate roof and brick walling set with 2 cambered-headed 3-light
casements. Two similar first floor windows. At left of the wing is brick
walling to the ground floor level with a 3-light window with cambered head
to right and a cambered-headed garage door at far left. Two 3-light
casement windows to the first floor above these. To the ridge at left of
centre is a chimney stack with moulded brick bands, the top part rebuilt.
Similar stack at right, entirely rebuilt in the C19. Right hand gable end:
brick walling at ground floor level, with a cambered-headed 2-light window
at right and a 2-light attic window. Rear: projecting gabled wing at right
of centre behind which a change in the levels of the ridge is evident. The
wing has a 6-light ground floor window and 4-light first floor casement.
To left is an outshut with 2 two-light casements and to the first floor
another 2-light casement. To right of the wing are further C19 outshuts.
Interior: Chamfered end-stopped C16 ceiling beams to the ground floor on
wall posts. Further jowled wall posts to the first floor and tie beams,
both of which bear mortice holes to receive arched braces now removed.
Roof probably of C17 with wind braces.
