District Offices. Late Cl7, remodelled in C19. Stucco facade with rendered dressings
and quoins, hipped and mansard slate roofs. Rendered stacks with cresting to left
and right of centre , rendered stacks to ends and rear. 2 storeys to wings, 3 storeys
and attics to centre pavilion under three pedimented dormers. 4 bay wings articulated
by rusticated piers with string course over ground floor and cornice to eaves. Glazing
bar sash windows in projecting render surrounds with cill brackets and garlanded aprons
to first floor windows. Flat hoods over ground floor windows. Projecting 5 bay central
pavilion with channelled ground floor and quoined ends, modillion cornice and
balustrade to eaves. Second floor windows in strip surrounds with scroll aprons below,
first floor windows under panelled projecting flat hoods. Ground floor windows with
block voussoirs. Central double half-glazed doors in architrave surrounds under
pedimented Ionic portico on two fluted columns. Square wooden cupola with chamfered
corners and ribbed dome on square plinth containing clock face to centre of pavilion
roof. 5 bay extension projecting to left: 2 storeys and attic under 5 pedimented
dormers, alternating triangular and segmental, with glazing bar sash windows across
the first floor. Part glazed doors, 5 across the ground floor.
Interior: Entrance Hall- staircase with fine twisted balusters and swept handrail,
foliage carving on tread ends. Ionic screen to. left and eaves moulding.
