Whiteley Village

10/256 The Chaplaincy

GV II

Chaplaincy. Circa 1912 by Walter Cave. Roughcast on rendered plinth with stone
dressings, hipped plain tiled roofs. 2 storeys with string course over ground floor.
2 bay centre with gable front cross wings to ends. Plate glass leaded casement
windows two four-light windows to first floor centre , mullion and transome window
to each gable. Arched planked and studded door in stop chamfered surround to left
centre. Further door on left hand return front.
Lead statue on corbel support to centre of first floor. Flat roofed single storey
garage extension to right.
Whiteley Village was provided by William dhiteley of Whiteley's stores for thrifty
old folk and was laid out on an octagonal plan by Frank Atkinson, employing leading
architects of the day.
