GV II

Lodge to Village. c1912 by Frank Atkinson. Red brick with plain tiled roof,ridge
stack to centre. Single storey and attic with flat roofed dormer, hipped roof
break to left with plat band over ground floor and to eaves. 2 casement windows
with guaged brick heads across the ground floor. Central half glazed door in
porch recess with one freestanding square pier to right. Half piers to left.
Gauged brick over the porch lintels and plat bands to piers.
Whiteley village was provided by William Whiteley of Whiteley's stores for thrifty
old folk and was laid out on an octagonal plan by Frank Atkinson , employing leading
architects of the day.
