House. C15 with C16 extensions, extended to left to incorporate Oast house in C20.
Timber framed on galleted stone plinth, red and blue brick cladding below, some
brick and tile mixtures to left; rendered infill to exposed frames above. Plain
tiled roofs. 3 diagonal stacks to left, square corbelled stack to left of centre,
panelled decorated stack to centre and doubled offset C17 diagonal stacks to right
side. Long front with gable front hall to right end, gabled entrance bay to right
of centre, recessed range to centre with gable bay projecting to left and gabled
C20 extension projecting at 45 degrees to left end. 2 storeys in gabled bays,
1 storey and attic to centre under 2 leaded diamond pane casement dormers. Close
framing exposed on hall to right, square panel framing on entrance with boarded
gable. Square panel framing to left. Irregular fenestration with wood framed
angle bay on coursed base to first floor of entrance bay, one 5-light and one 3
light first floor casement windows with diagonal mullions to first floor left,
one 6-light and one 7-light window to ground floor centre. One 5-light casement
to first floor of left hand gable and one 4-light window to left end. Main entrance
to right in recessed porch with 3-light window to left of ribbed and studded door
in moulded chamfered surround.
Rear: In similar style with continuous leaded casement fenestration. Gabled bay
to right of centre and wing to right end projecting; square oast house on end
under pyramidal roof. Open throughway to right.

Interior:- Considerable quantities of framing exposed. Great Hall to: right,
2 framed bays with Crown post roof. Fireplace surround with "IMS 1624"
inscribed over.

House was the home of Winston Churchill for about 5 years.
