GV II
Farmhouse, subsequently public house and dwelling, now house. Probably early
C17; enlarged in early C18 and subsequently; altered. Timber frame with brick
nogging, part rendered and painted white, part tile-hung, with later addition of
brick; red tile roof. U-plan, the C17 2-unit range now forming a receding west
wing to the C18 addition, with later additions to the rear of both. The south
front, of 2 storeys and 3 bays, rendered and painted white, has the gable of the
wing at the left end, and altered openings: a glazed door in the centre, a bow
window at each end, and three 3-light casements above. Ridge chimney and gable
chimney to the main range. The left return wall of the wing has a large
external chimney stack, and is otherwise rendered at ground floor and tile-hung
above; the rear of the main range has some exposed early C18 large-framing of
light scantling partly covered by a verandah incorporating a porch in the angle,
and a lean-to addition under a catslide roof at the east end; the west wing has
a small section of exposed C17 framing including a down brace, and a modern 2-
storey extension to the rear gable (not of special interest). Interior: the C17
portion now forming the west wing has an almost complete timber frame, with
sill, wallposts, rails, angle-braces, wind-braced purlins, and a coupled rafter roof;
and wooden diamond mullion windows of 5 lights at ground floor of the former
north gable wall, and 2 lights at 1st floor of the east wall; the C18 addition has
timber-framed rear and longitudinal partition walls, and an inglenook at the east
gable.
