Originally called Heron's Ghyll. Original portion circa 1850. Tudor Gothic
style. Two storeys. Stone. Tiled roof. Gabled dormers. Casement windows
with stone-mullioned and transomed windows. Two storeyed porch. The house
was occupied by the poet, Coventry Patmore, who made additions in 1866-7.
Architect J F Bently. These are in similar style and materials. On the garden
front 2 gabled, two-storeyed, bays with mullioned and transomed windows on
ground floor and mullioned windows only on first floor. Shield between the
bays on first floor. Gabled dormer above. To the right of this block is a
slightly larger block with central gable. The interior has a staircase in
Jacobean style.
