(North Side)

No 53 (Mordington)
SZ 9499 18/17 22.4.71.

2.
This is a somewhat similar house to St Michaels but not a pair with it.
Early C19. 3 storeys and basement. 8 windows. Stuccoed stone colour. Eaves
cornice. 2 bays of 3 windows each on all floors with hipped slate roofs.
All glazing bars missing. The house itself is rather dull but is worth including
for its portico at the head of 5 steps. This has 4 Doric columns, triglyph
frieze, and pediment over the centre. The door has 6 moulded panels (top
4 glazed) and a semi-circular fanlight over it and is flanked by 2 similar
doorways, with semi-circular fanlights over. The east front has a small
verandah up 5 steps, with dentilled cornice, a pediment over the centre and
similar triple door to that in the front portico but without the fanlights,
glazed in, one light engraved with Grecian ornament. The vestibule has
2 Corinthian columns axial to centre of middle door and a pair of very shallow
eliptical arches across the rear.
Nos 41 to 57 (odd), No 55A, Nos 65 to 71 (odd) and all the walls form a group.
