This is a moated house which was originally the shape of 3 sides of square,
since filled in on the west. The oldest portion is the north side with its
series of red brick chimney breasts rising up out of the moat. This was built
by the Bellingham family in the C16, but the main portion of the house dates from
the late C17. The entrance front faces east. Two storeys and attic. Nine windows
3 dormers. Faced with squared knapped flints with red brick window dressings and
stringcourse, stone quoins and plinth, and wooden dentilled eaves cornice.
Hipped roof of Horsham slabs. Sash windows with glazing bars intact. C19 flint
and brick porch with Horsham slab roof. The south front is red brick. C16 fire-
place, late C17 staircase and late C18 wall painting. Article in the Sussex
County Magazine Volume 5, page 641 and in Country Life of 30 December 1916.
