Large house. Circa 1870 for J.W. Pease, banker. Coursed squared sandstone with ashlar
dressings; Welsh slate roof. 2 storeys and attics; 4 wide irregular bays, the left
gabled with a semi-circular bow, the third projecting with a semi-circular bow.
Projecting ground-floor canted bay at left. Windows mainly 4-paned sashes. 2 each
in the left 2 bays. In right bays, stone mullioned-and-transomed windows, those on
ground floor of double height. 2 gabled dormers in second bay. Upper windows in left
bays have enriched pediments and the main gable has flanking ball finials. Extruded
first-floor dressing-room to right of bow rests on square buttress and an angel
corbel. Left return in similar style. Deep port-cochere on right return. Steps to
double panelled door, with fanlight and sidelights, in multi-moulded arch. Large
rear domestic wing. Irregularly-placed corniced pilastered stacks. Interior shows,
4 stone arches to corridors and entrance; marble entrance floor, high quality
Jacobean-style panelling to former dining room, with pendants to panelled ceiling;
C17-style stair with wide grip handrail and fat turned balusters; marble chimney-
pieces, some painted over, one with Wedgewood plaques, some with tiled surrounds;
stone chimney piece with marble inlay in arcaded Jacobean surround in the panelled
room. Early C18-style chimney pieces in rear wing. 4 high-quality glass panels,
original fitted bench and Jacobean-style cast iron fire dog in former billiard room.
