Farmhouse, Late C15, with early C16 additions, and early C17 staircase and
north-west wings; C17, C18 and C20 alterations. Timber framed; close studding
and square framing with lath and plaster and brick infill; some render; parts
refaced or rebuilt in brick:. Old tile roofs; brick stacks. Complex plan. 2
storeys and attic; 5-window range. Front has central range, 2 cross wings of
differing heights, and gabled staircase projection in right re-entrant angle.
Central range is underbuilt in brick. Entrance has plank door and hood with
simple brackets. Leaded-light casements. Small ogee light to left, wood
mullioned and transomed windows to right, 4-liqht to ground floor; 3-light above
with small adjoining casement. 2-light casement to left. Staircase range has
2-light latticed casement and small gable light. Left wing is underbuilt in
plastered brick. 3-light casements with brick segmental arches. Left side has
close studding below, square framing above. Irregular left return side has
external brick stack of 2 diagonally-set square shafts. Gabled range has exposed
framing with jowled posts and brief:: infill, underbuilt in brick. Further brick
range has C20 plank door and adjoining window, and C20 casements. Right return
side has brick range on left with 2-light casements, and slightly lower timber
framed range to right. Irregular fenestration. Central range gable visible above
roof, Irregular rear, mostly of brick. Brick external stack on left. Interior
inspection not permitted, but VCH lists following features: hall and north room
have chamfered beams with moulded stops and square, joists. C17 timber framed
partition. Hall has flagged floor and open fireplace with chamfered bressumer.
South wing rooms have stop-chamfered beams. C17 staircase with turned balusters
Partition on first floor has heavy framing. South wing roof smoke blackened. roof smoke blackened.
