Group of 4 chest tombs and 13 headstones. Late C17 and C18. Carved and moulded
ironstone. Chest tombs have moulded plinth and top, and square corner balusters.
Chest tomb 15m. south of porch. Mid C18. Long sides have fielded panel; short
sides have sunk panel. Headstone 1m. north of it. Mid/late C17. Scrolled top and
sunk panel. Chest tomb 19m. south of porch. 1784 etc. Fielded panels: 2 to long
sides, one to short sides. Inscriptions to Baseley family. Row of 4 headstones
between chest tombs. Left: 1700. Open segmental pediment with winged head. Large
frieze of leaf scrolls. Central panel and female figures holding palms. High
relief. Second: 1687. Scrolled pediment with winged head. Frieze of leaf scrolls
and vases. Central panel and female figures, possibly originally holding palms.
Third. Early c18, Scrolled pediment with winged head. Pulvinated frieze
Corinthian columns and moulded panel with leaf frieze. Right: 1705, Open
segmental pediment with vase. Pulvinated frieze has small winged head. Central
panel and female figures holding palms. Chest tomb 21m. south of porch.
Early/mid C18, One long and 2 narrow fielded panels to long sides. Chest tomb
approx. 17m. south-west of porch. 1774. Broad base. 2 moulded fielded panels to
long sides, one to short sides. Inscriptions to Baseley family. Row of 7
headstones east of Baseley tomb. Left: early C18. Two winged heads and swag
draped over kneeling female figure. Leaf scrolls. Fielded panel has flanking
winged skulls and scrolls. Second: early C18. Scrolled segmental top with winged
head. Composite columns and fielded panel. Fifth arid sixth headstones are
generally similar, but with a flat panel. Third: 1722. Scrolled pediment with
winged head and tassels. Swag. Composite columns and moulded fielded panel.
Fourth: early C18. Segmental top with double swag over winged head. Fielded
panel with flanking winged skulls and scrolls. Seventh: C17/C18. Oval panel and
flowers. The remaining headstone is not of special architectural interest.
