Detached house. C16, north range c1600 and front refenestrated early C19.
English bond brick, tiled roof, brick stacks to rear and to right gable. T-plan.
2-storey, 3-window front. Central 6-panelled door in moulded architrave with flat
wooden hood on brackets, two 12-pane sashes to left and one to right; all with flat
arches. first floor has 4-light mullioned and transomed window to left, 2-light
leaded casement over door and 2-light casement to right. Two hipped dormers with
leaded casements. Right return has 2-light casements. Left return has 3-light and
2-light casements. Rear has truncated C16 range, formerly timber-framed and faced in
brick early C18 with 2-light casements and half-hipped roof, main range has 12-pane
sashes in large external stack with pair of diagonally set stacks.
Interior: south range has chamfered open fireplace lintel with rounded corners,
some surviving timber-framing. North range has timber-framed entrance hall,
chamfered beams with ogee stops. Fireplace with moulded stone surround, early C18
panelling and doors with 6 fielded panels in dining room, chamfered doorcases.
First floor has winding stairs. The brickwork on north front is a particularly early
surviving example of good brickwork in this area. (Unpublished records of RCHM
