Part of the St John's Hospital complex. A pair of houses of C17 origin
almost entirely rebuilt in 1825. 3 storeys. Built of brick and ashlar
banded courses with continuous ashlar plinth, 2 course brick strings and
paired brackets to eaves. Old tile roof with central and gable end chimneys.
Each house has 2 ranges of 2-light segmental glazing bar casements with
segmental heads flanking central single light window. Central doorways
with panelled doors in lattice porches. Single storey, one window hipped
roof extension to right. North gable end has datestone "Anno Domini 1825
(?)". Blocked doorway with segmental pediment on cut brackets and with
dentil cornice. 2-light windows above and to left. No 10 retains moulded
late C18 fittings (2 fireplaces, rehung doors etc) and a mid C17 plaster
ceiling with corner stamps on ground floor (RCHM).
