II
Former West lodge to Compton House, dated 1830, squared rubble
stone and half-timber with stone slate deep-eaves roof and two
ornate octagonal stone stacks. 1 1/2 storeys, picturesque vernacular
style, L-plan with barge boarded gables to south and east, roof
hipped at north west angle. Upper floor of each gable is jettied
and half-timbered with stone infill and 3-light stone mullion
window. Ground floor is stone on high red brick plinth. South
gable has studded plank door in depressed arched surround with
hoodmould. Four-light window with hoodmould on east and west side
walls. East gable has ground floor ashlar canted bay window.
West wall has lean-to to left with south front ashlar canted bay.
North wall has barge boarded timber porch.
An early and well-detailed example of half-timbered revival.
