drive to Lacock Abbey
GV II

Garden ornament, mid C18 re-erection of mid C16 large ashlar paired
chimney stack. Two fluted Roman Doric shafts with full
entablature over, standing on high panelled pedestal. North side
strapwork cartouche, lozenges each end. Above entablature is
carved stone sphinx said to be by Benjamin Carter (fl. c1735-66).
