5/58 The Manor House
GV II
Manor house. Late C17, late C18, mid C19 and early C20. Rubble
stone, Welsh slate hipped roof, stone stacks. Rambling L-plan.
Two-storey, 6-window front. Recessed C20 door with niche to right
and small sash to left, within Tuscan portico of c1980, two 16-pane
sashes to first floor. Matching flanking wings, the left one with
two 12-pane sashes to ground and first floor, the right one with
two 16-pane sashes to ground and first floor. Mid C19 ashlar wing
projecting to left has 12-pane sashes and plat band. Right return
has five French windows to ground floor within C20 loggia, five
first floor sashes, two flat-headed attic dormers with 2-light
casements. Left return has 8-pane sashes to C19 wing, left return
of C17 range has two cross windows with fillet-mouldings to ground
floor and three to first floor, moulded string course, wing to left
built as services, has sashes and 6-panelled door, gable end with
1913 datestone. Rear has lean-to extensions, half-glazed door and
4-pane and 16-pane sashes, gable end of C17 range has early C20
renewed cross windows and string course.
Interior largely remodelled C20, retains original early C19
joinery; 6-panelled doors in moulded architraves, window shutters,
open-well stairs with stick balusters, cantilevered stone stairs
with moulded handrail, chamfered beams in C17 range, moulded C17
balusters on attic landing.
