Terrace of 8 houses, now offices. c1771; No 11 dated 1787.
Late C19 alterations. Built for Thomas Broadbent. Brick with
ashlar and brick dressings with slate roofs and 7 gable and 2
ridge stacks.
EXTERIOR: plinths, ramped coped parapets, coped gables.
Central block has moulded cornice; other houses have brick
dentilled eaves, that to 11 larger and more elaborate. 3
storeys; 18 window range, arranged 3:3:6:3:3. First floor
windows are 12 pane sashes, second floor windows 9 pane
sashes, 12 pane to No.1. All windows have brick flat arches.
Projecting central block, 6 windows, has an off-centre
doorcase with eared architrave and semi-pediment. Fielded
6-panel door and overlight. To its right, a 12 pane sash.
Beyond, on either side, doorcases with panelled pilasters,
reeded friezes and cornices, and fielded 5-panel doors. Beyond
again, single 12 pane sashes. On either side, houses with
doorcases with eared architraves and cornices, and fielded
6-panel doors, flanked to right by two 12 pane sashes. Left
house has a bronze tablet recording a visit by John Wesley,
1779.
Beyond again, house to left has similar doorcase and
fenestration. To right, end house has central 12 pane sash
flanked to left by a doorcase with pilasters and cornice, and
C20 fielded 6-panel door. To right, a similar doorcase with
half-glazed door and overlight, and to its right, a 12 pane
sash.
